My paintings are done by hand using a paint brush the size of 2 hairs, acrylic paint, and a graphite pencil. My paintings are done on traditional canvas and take 600-3200 hours to complete. The average time it takes me to create a painting is 1-3 years due to the layers of tiny details I paint into all of my paintings. I am a nature painter and focus primarily on the birds and woodlands of the Midwest. I do extensive research in the field to observe and learn about my subjects before starting a painting. My paintings are my own compositions and designed based off my observations and interactions with nature. My paintings feature three layers of hand drawing and painting. The backgrounds are done in acrylic using a modern painting style called abstract expression. The middle layer is hand drawn in pencil. The third and final layer is done in acrylic again over the pencil. My work is very labor intensive. But I love the process. It was born out of my deep love of both drawing and painting.
