David Woodworks

Potosi, WI
ARTIST BIO

Hand made wood turnings with a twist. I color my work using a method I discovered when I was 8 years old. I use oil pastel/ solid shellac color sticks on wood, I melt it onto the surface using heat through friction. My work is all functional, yet a one of a kind piece of art that is to be used to elevate one’s home decor.

I have been practicing woodturning since I was a 7 year old, following my dad to his woodshop. He started me out on the lathe. My dad was more of a flatwork woodworker for his 50+ year career, but he felt that at my age, the lathe was a better fit and would allow me to be creative. I have fallen in love with woodturning over the last 20 years. I’ve stuck with it and it is now my full time career.

My dad and I harvest our wood from our 20 acre woodlot in Southwest Wisconsin. Our sawmill allows us to provide ourselves with a nearly unlimited source of beautiful midwestern woods. I am a 5th generation woodworker. My work has drifted quite far from what my ancestors were making, but I believe that I am carrying on the skills I inherited from my heirs.
