Alexandra (Alex) Mortensen began her music studies on the piano at the age of five but the combination of theater and music has brought her passions together as she hopes to play in one (or many) Pit Orchestra’s on Broadway.
“I am hoping that this scholarship will be a stepping stone in reaching my goals and gaining a higher-level education to pursue something that brings people together as well as something that I am passionate about.”
Alex plays Oboe and English horn for the Woodwind Ensembles and the OHS Orchestra. She was also principal Oboist of the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra Senior Symphony and the MYSO Chamber Orchestra. She has been a member of the OHS Jazz I where she played the tenor saxophone and baritone saxophone. Alex has been an OHS Marching Band Student Leader and Drum Major for the past three years and has had a huge impact on younger students and has been called “an amazing drum major.” She also volunteers with the Oconomowoc Area Legion Band both as a drum major and musician.
She is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica and Tri-M Music Honor Society.
We wish Alex every success as she continues her studies at the University of Indiana – Bloomington in the fall.
