2023 Judges

Stephen Perkins

Born in London, Dr. Stephen Perkins is an Emeritus Curator of Art, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. He emigrated to the USA in 1980 and completed an MA in Art at San Francisco State University studying with the visual anthropologist John Collier Jr.

After ten years involvement with the San Francisco alternative art scene, he moved to Iowa City to pursue a PhD in Art History at the University of Iowa-Iowa City, with a dissertation on Artists’ periodicals receiving his PhD in 2003. In 2000, he accepted the position of curator of art at the Lawton Gallery, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, where he remained until 2015.

Recent activities include a one-person exhibition at the Watrous Gallery in Madison titled Stephen Perkins: Mining the Archive: Subspace Works and Artists’ Accordion Books, February 10 – April 9, 2023.

Lillian Sizemore

Lillian Sizemore pursued a life-long career in the arts after graduating in Fine Art, Printmaking, and Italian at Indiana University-Bloomington in 1980. She works across disciplines from graphic design and photography, to mosaic and arts administration. Her writing has been published in RawVision, Wisconsin People & Ideas, and Mosaïque, among others.

She lived for 25 years in San Francisco, where she began researching the twentieth century mosaic movement employing her expertise as a maker with a passion for mosaic in the built environment. She taught at the Institute of Mosaic Art in Oakland, and from 2013-2016 she lived in London pursuing further arts research at The Prince’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts.

In 2021-22 she was awarded a Madison Arts Commission Blink Grant to build a temporary land art project; “How Lovely Are Thy Branches” an 89-foot diameter walking labyrinth made from crowdsourced holiday pine trees. Her website is LillianSizemore.com
