Josephine Cox – 2020

OFA Fine Arts Scholarship

Josephine Cox: Josie was awarded a 2020 Oconomowoc Festival of the Arts Fine Arts Scholarship. Josie stated that she decided to continue playing (music) in college and pursue a music major because she realized how much of an impact music has had on her life.  “I couldn’t stop playing clarinet.”  In one of her visits to her chosen college (Liberty University), she met and played with the clarinet professor.  She was also allowed to sit in on clarinet choir ensemble rehearsals.  That experience and visit cemented her decision to attend.

During her 4 years at Oconomowoc High School she was involved with Wind Symphony (principal clarinet for 2 years), Jazz and, Jazz Combo, Marching & Pep Band, Woodwind Choir, and Clarinet Choir. She also competed on the Varsity Swim Team and the JV Soccer team.  She is a member of the National Honor Society.

After receiving her degree in music performance, she plans to make a career making music. Her dream job would be playing for movie soundtracks or Broadway shows.  She will be attending Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia in the fall 2020 to study Music Performance – Clarinet.
